Indoor life can be wonderfully rich when play is designed around how cats actually think: short bursts of movement, novelty, scent and the satisfaction of finding something for themselves.
Rotate, do not overwhelm
Keep a small selection of toys available and rotate the rest every few days. A familiar toy can feel new again when it disappears for a while.
Use play before meals when possible. It follows the natural rhythm of stalk, chase, catch and eat, and often leaves cats more settled afterwards.
Make room for independent play
Interactive toys are useful, but cats also need invitations they can explore alone. Tunnels, soft wool balls and tactile wooden toys create small moments of discovery throughout the day.
